Just-in-time card issuance at national scale

Backend work on Pryme, Qore's card issuance platform, which sits behind 85% of all card issuance in Nigeria.

The problem

Getting a bank card used to mean applying, waiting, and coming back days later. Pryme collapses that into a single visit: the card is produced, personalised and activated while the customer stands there, either at a branch counter or at a self-service vending machine.

Doing that means running the entire production chain live. PAN generation, upload to the card management system, magnetic stripe and EMV chip data preparation, encoding, printing, linking, PIN selection and activation. Banks depend on it, cardholders depend on the banks, and there is no version of this being down that counts as merely inconvenient.

What I did

I build and maintain backend systems in C# and ASP.NET Core, shipping into a platform that is already live and already carrying national volume. It cannot pause while I work on it.

Card issuance touches enough of the business that designing any part of it in isolation produces something that does not fit. Most of the actual engineering is agreeing the contract with other teams before a line of it gets written.

Alongside feature work I tune performance and scalability as issuance volume grows.

What changed

The platform handles 85% of all card issuance in Nigeria.

Ongoing performance work keeps it ahead of growing volume.
